Windmills Craftworks
For 15 years, Ajay Nagarajan worked in Texas as a technology professional with a master’s degree in electronics engineering. Along the way, he took to homebrewing, a fairly popular pastime in the US and something he had come to enjoy. Over time, Ajay became increasingly captivated by the art and the science of taking a few ingredients and turning them into the most fabulous brews.
What started off as a hobby soon became a serious pursuit for Ajay. His hobby became a professional option when he enrolled in one of America’s oldest brewing schools, The Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago, to learn the art and business of brewing. Ajay then signed up for various courses to learn the art of making beer, as he became increasingly more passionate about the process.
Chasing the dream, he returned to India in 2011, determined to start his own brewery. His move was also propelled by the fact that licenses to start microbreweries were beginning to be issued at that time. Ajay's passion found a befitting partner in Kamal Sagar and Shibanee Sagar from Total Environment, whose distinctive designs and nature-inspired constructions have changed the face of real estate development in Bangalore.
Windmills Craftworks was fuelled by their vision to build something unique, something that broke the unthinking stereotype of pubs, something far more than a beer pub with a brewery. From buying his first 'Mr Beer' kit from a neighbourhood 7 Eleven stores in the US a decade or so ago, he is currently engaged in building India's most creative microbrewery at Windmills Craftworks.
